🎥 Advertising vs Storytelling (contains Jude Law)
Hey there,
We saw an ad this week for a “Brand Designer (Digital Storyteller + Graphic Design, Multimedia)”. Even after disassembling the word salad it’s tough to know where all those different jobs collide.
But sometimes advertising is storytelling, in the traditional unpretentious, non-hipster sense of the word. So we’ve gathered some of our favourites. Some new, some old, all bold.
Enjoy.
Enchante - Smell the Roses
Starring Kristen Bell, this is a neat little tale of just taking the time to appreciate.
Coke - Border Guards
This is our favourite ad of all time. Every shot advances the story.
Johnnie Walker Blue - The Wager (Jude Law)
An oldie, but one of our clear favourites.
Etsy has it
There’s that famous Hemingway fable where he was asked to write a story in 6 words that shows brevity is wonderful. This from Etsy has conflict, drama and resolution all in 30 seconds.
(The 6 words were “for sale, baby shoes, never worn” 🥲)
The Killer in Red - Clive Owen
Here we go, a literal story, pretending to be an advert. It has sex, murder and Clive Owen.
Movie Trailer of the Week - Reality
You can tell just from the trailer that Sidney Sweeney’s performance as a former American intelligence analyst accused of leaking secrets is utterly mesmerising.
Have a thoroughly splendid weekend.
