Olivia Colman's going to make you cry

Friday Video Goodness 22Sep23

Happy Friday,

It’s lovely to know that our open rate and clicks have been steadily creeping up. Thanks for your support, it’s lovely.

Rather than a big long blurb we’ve opted for a slightly different approach this week and just put our thoughts about each video and why we think they’re worth your time alongside each film below.

We don’t needlessly fill the newsletter with garbage so it’s a relatively short one this week.

Change The Ending - Alzheimer’s UK

Trigger Warning; the first video this week is an animated tale voiced by Olivia Colman about dementia and Alzheimers. It’s a fairy tale in the old sense, dark and not necessarily with a happy ending but with a sense of hope at the same time. It’s wonderfully done and a great example of how to tackle tough subjects.

Why Rolls Royce Cars Are So Expensive

We once paid a signwriter to do a mural on our office wall (it was really cool) but the cost of that doesn’t compare to the one guy that paints all of the pinstripes onto Rolls Royces.

What’s fascinating about this is the question of whether or not it would have been as interesting if Rolls Royce had made it themselves, rather than just allowing Business Insider access to shoot it.

We think the answer is yes, but it would require the brand to have a bit of flexibility in how the messaging comes across.

World’s Best FPV Drone Shot - Future Foundry

The invention of the drone was a huge game changer for the film industry. The FPV (first person view) drone is the next level and there are some phenomenal examples. Not sure we quite agree that this is the world’s best shot but it is absolutely fantastic. Enough that we might actually go get one…

What have we been up to?

The Fold - Future Foundry

The challenge with that film was to develop a rapid, engaging style that underlined the message without being too literal but also didn’t scare off a corporate audience.

It was also a fascinating challenge to blend the user generated content element with the graphics.

We’d love to know what you think and we’d really love to do more of this sort of thing for someone else too so get in touch if you’re interested.

Still here? Lovely. Thanks for staying with us.

Movie Trailer of the Week - Bargain

If the first Korean title you watched was Squid Game or Parasite then you should know there’s a whole world high concept Korean cinema that’s definitely worth your time. The trailer for Bargain is a perfect example of what looks like a normal human interaction, that takes a spectacular turn for the unexpected… twice. And that’s just the trailer.
