🎥 Take the Time to do Things Well

Friday Video Video Goodness 11Aug23

Hey there,

Welcome again to our semi-irregular dose of creative inspiration.

The lead video in the last FVG featuring the only good Women’s World Cup ad elicited more feedback than we’ve ever had. We always love to hear from people so please let us know if there’s anything that catches your eye.

This week’s videos are all slightly slow burn, fascinating films that take the time to do something really well. This is something that flies in the face of most modern video strategy and most people’s experience of opening up their phones.

As always, we hope it brings you joy and inspiration.

Instagram - Small Fries

Bear with this one. When so much video strategy (including Instagram’s) is based upon seizing and holding your attention this one of a series of videos that gives itself the rare luxury of time to breathe.

It’s a wandering story, like a 90s Indie movie, that meanders disjointedly through how people actually use Instagram. I absolutely love it.

How to Really Show Off Your Skills

Even though this isn’t advertised as a showreel, I can imagine the guy’s inbox filled up pretty quickly afterwards with offers for work. The whole thing is so elegantly and seamlessly executed.

Also, this video is why my desk setup is really, really tidy and clean this morning.

Troy - Sivan (slightly NSFW)

There’s a man’s bottom in the opening shot. No idea why, except it’s a music video and the normal rules of society don’t apply.

I’ve included this for two reasons really. The first is that there’s a tiktok dance craze based largely on this dancing in this video and it’s always good to know where the things originate. Secondly because of the light. It looks so fresh, summery and youthful and shows what can be done when you’ve got endless sunshine on tap (Sorry Britain).

We don’t include a lot of music videos but this one is a gem.

What have we been up to?

Well done for making it this far down. We love you for it.

Congratulations to James, our in-house apprentice for coming on board as a full-time member of the team.

We wrote a really in-depth case study on a TV commercial we shot for Co-op that dives into what goes on in the making of this kind of stuff.

Movie Trailer of the Week - The Great Escaper

You can’t guarantee a movie will be good based on its pitch but “Michael Caine escapes from an old people’s home to attend a D-Day reunion” is probably as good as it gets.

That’s it from me. Have a magnificent weekend.
